Brazen thuggery

Unions began when workers wanted to be sure of not having their whole lives squeezed out of them when they went to work.   However, the whole point of a labor union is to create a monopoly on a labor force.   Lots of monopolies go bad.  They start to get comfortable living without competition and get upset when someone else who isn’t them start to do better.  For this reason too many unions devolve into thuggery. Like so:

“Punch back twice as hard.”   Barack H. Obama intends to do things the Chicago way.  So be it.
The Apocryphal Prophet’s Safety Tips for going to Demonstrations

1. Never go alone.  Always have a friend stand back and observe.

2. Get everything recorded on video, especially if anyone gets violent.  You do not want to be in a position where you can’t prove that you didn’t start it.

3. Have someone with a laptop ready to secure a copy of the video as soon as possible.

4. Learn how to lawfully defend yourself and get a concealed weapon license if you can.

5.  Be unimpeachable.  Don’t do anything that would weaken your position in court.

Obama birth certificate, the forgery, and eligibility revisited.

I am not a ‘Birther’. I am not an anti-birther.   I do not believe with unwavering firmness that Barack H. Obama is not a natural-born US citizen.  Neither do I believe that the available facts soundly establish that those who are convinced of this notion are a bunch of credulous idiots.  What I do believe is that Obama has caused enough damage in his term of office so far, combining the foreign policy savvy of Jimmy Carter with the political tactics of Richard Nixon and the grandiose totalitarianism of Wilson and F.D. Roosevelt, that it is difficult to imagine how Joe Biden could do the job any worse.  All options must be explored in having Obama legally removed from office as soon as possible.

The fact of the matter is that Barack Obama has suppressed the release of several documents that, if available, would settle all reasonable questions of his eligibility to hold the office, and there are several ways he might be disqualified if one holds to the traditional definition of ‘natural-born citizen’ that has been assumed but never seriously tested up to date.   The birth certificate that people want to see is a certified copy of the original birth certificate, not the ‘Certification of Live Birth’ which has been repeatedly explained as not being the same thing.

The fact that there has been a forged, supposedly Kenyan, certificate does  not indicate anything about what is in the genuine document, wherever it is.  The fact that there were announcements of Obama’s birth in a local Hawaiian paper  is stronger circumstantial evidence that he was, in fact, born in Hawaii.   If those announcements were falsified, the most rational explanation is that it was done by his mother to protect him from an international child custody dispute.  The argument is somewhat sketchy but so far it remains within reason.

It has also been revealed that the nature of this most recent forgery is that of a hoax, intended to string the ‘Birthers’ along for a week or so and then embarrass them all.  This limits the motives of the forgery to two main possibilities.

First, it might be someone mainly motivated as an anti-birther, convinced that ‘conspiracy theories’ about Obama’s place of birth are garbage and using the hoax to pound that point in.  It seems to me that the core of the anti-birthers are driven by an irrational devotion to some imaginary definition of rationalism, more interested in maintaining the appearance of rationalism than of actually maintaining a disciplined consideration of all known facts.   They are not ’sheeple’, as a true conspiracy theorist would accuse, but the line they have drawn between insane delusional conspiracy theory and plausible allegation is not quite in the correct place, leading them to lash out in tiresome ‘Birthers are idiots!!!!11′ screechery.

Second, it might be someone mainly motivated as a pro-Obama activist, whose main goal is to protect Obama by making it too embarrassing for the ‘birthers’ to take the investigation any further.  What they believe about the facts is secondary.

The currently available facts suggest four main hypotheses about Obama, which I will put in order of most plausible to least according to my estimation.

A:  There is nothing to the birth certificate issue.  Obama would like us to think that there is, though, because the longer people dwell on that point  and embarrass themselves, the less likely it will be that anyone will gain traction in questioning Obama’s college records and Indonesian passport, in which there is a possible case to be made against his eligibility.

B:  None of the documents Obama is keeping hidden mean anything in terms of threatening his eligibility.  His college records, if exposed, would show something else:  the classes he took and grades he received.  It wouldn’t be damning enough if Obama had mediocre grades, since George W. Bush was a C student himself and got to serve two terms.  What would be more embarrassing would be for this allegedly ‘post-partisan’ figure to have a transcript full of courses that pin him as a full-blooded Communist.   The ‘Progressives’ would like us to accept the revisionist history of Joe McCarthy and not treat commies like they’re such a bad thing, but that meme hasn’t fully sunk into this country yet.  If people had documentary proof that Karl Marx occupied a significant portion of Obama’s brain it would be very bad for Obama’s prospects in the next election.

C:  There is a birth certificate problem.  Obama is  a citizen of the United States, but not a natural-born one.  Given that, he cannot be President.

D: There is nothing actually damning in the documents.   Obama is doing this to feed wild speculation to make us all look like idiots for the next election cycle.

What is certain is that Obama is doing this deliberately, most likely because there is something to hide.

Report Doubleplusungood crimespeak to Minitrue Immediately

His Obaminable Oneness wants you to report people spreading ‘disinformation’ about his health care reform plan. So I reported myself in an e-mail saying this:

I overheard myself opposing the Democrat health care ‘reform plan’. Let’s put aside the fact that the United States Constitution does not cover this kind of government activity and that the President and most of Congress are in breach of their oath of office for pursuing this. The Democrat Party, evident in the meaning of their very name, clearly believes that winning an election is a license to do absolutely anything they please.

Fact: The people who are supposedly going to get to keep their current plan are for the most part not going to keep it. You will have to raise taxes on the middle class and people will fall back to your public plan to make ends meet. Taxes will be driven up further as people higher up the income scale are forced onto the public plan. The extinction of private health insurance for all except the wealthy is an inevitable consequence of this scheme, whether or not you say you are not outright prohibiting private insurance.

Fact: You wish to prohibit insurance companies from refusing coverage because of medical history. I presume you mean you wish to prohibit insurance companies from charging higher rates to customers who have a more complex medical history. The inevitable consequence of this prohibition will be to inflate insurance costs for people in better health. This is blatantly unfair. It is not that I do not care about people in poor health, but it is immoral to have anyone other than me decide how generous I should be.

Fact: You wish to cap out-of-pocket expenses/deductibles/co-pays. The inevitable consequence of this is that insurance companies will roll that cost into their regular monthly fees, achieving nothing except redistributing the cost to families who do not go to see the doctor every time their toddler gets the sniffles.

Fact: You wish to extend family coverage to ‘children’ up to the age of 26. You have been doing great in the way you have managed the public education system if people aren’t expected to grow up until age 26. An inevitable consequence of this is yet one more disincentive for young adults to pursue independence.

Fact: You wish to force insurance companies to perpetually renew their policies so long as customers keep paying their premium. This sounds like price fixing to me.

Fact: There isn’t enough tax money available to pay for this whole plan, either current or theoretical. When the budget comes up short you’re going to need people intellectually equipped like John Holdren to make the ‘tough choices’ on what the government plan will cover. You’re going to need to ration services for senior citizens eventually because you’re not going to find enough money to pay for it all even if you loot the whole country.

Whine all you want about ‘disinformation’. Keep going down this path and there will be more and better propagandists aligned against you. Keep going farther and you’ll bring the nation crashing down. What you’re doing has been attempted before and hasn’t worked. It cannot work. You say it will be different this time but it will not. Your 20th-century ideals have no place in the years to come.

Though I was born very near the nation’s capital and have spent nearly all my life in Pennsylvania, I know people who have immigrated from behind the Iron Curtain, and their hackles raise at anything approaching the Soviet health care system they risked their lives to escape. It’s not me spreading ‘disinformation’, it’s them who see the similarity. And if they were willing to do that you should talk to them to find out what they will be willing to do to keep it from happening here.

I am tired of the calumnious accusation that I have no alternative plan. My alternative is to keep the government out. It’s not your business. My solution to some of the problems would be to develop a private education system oriented around producing independent adults trained to make their own health and financial decisions, and to be noisier and more proactive as customers. We don’t need you to do this.

If you try, you’re going to find that there aren’t enough taxpayers to support your madness. I’m certainly not currently interested in pursuing a high-paying job now when I’m going to get half my pay sucked out in taxes. I’m not going to let myself get into a position where I’ll be paying for this. Try and make me, and that would be a violation of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution.

Ah, of course. Silly me, thinking the Constitution is going to stop you.

Sincerely,
George A. Freeland
A Sensible American
